Abstract
Resources arise whenever there is some constraint, either practical or fundamental. Studying the structures that arise in connection to these resources can enhance our understanding of important features in quantum information theory. Furthermore, the manipulation of these resources can improve our ability to perform computational tasks, in certain cases providing a quantum advantage over the classical analogue. In this thesis we study the structure of resources in thermodynamics, in particular the structure of passivity, with a novel geometric approach. Then we provide a classification scheme for quantum resources under symmetry constraints, considering both the abstract structures and their consequences. Finally, we study computational resources for resampling algorithms on quantum computers, and how quantum resources enable a proven quantum advantage for a class of algorithms called Bernoulli factories.
