Abstract
In the past decades mechanically interlocked molecules have been studied due to their unique prop- erties, that derive from their unusually large degrees of (co-)conformational freedom and their potential applications in various fields. This research described, in chapter 2 the synthesis of post-functionalised catenanes and studied the impact of the mechanical bond in such functional groups with elechtrochemi- cal, emmision and absorption studies. Chapter 3 explored the use of a passive metal template approach towards the iterative synthesis of main-chain oligo[n]catenanes. This research also explored, in chapter 4 the incorporation of mechanically interlocked molecules in metal organic polyhedron and it describes the synthesis and characterization of a rotaxane-functionalised metal organic polyhedron.
