Abstract
In the Afterword, the editors reflect on the series of dynamic contributions in the chapters, which have examined the material transformations of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). It argues that future research needs to better interrogate the interplay of local and global political economies, geopolitics and social and environmental relations within the BRI. It draws out a series of reflections about the BRI-driven infrastructural and political ecological transformations and proposes some cross-cutting themes, including: extractivist corridors; socio-environmental conflicts and environmental justice; uncertain futures; and local agency, counter-movements and resistance corridors. Collectively. these research themes open up new possibilities around a comparative and community-engaged research agenda.
