Abstract
A design tool for reciprocating-piston expanders is presented, with the capability of predicting expander performance, including power output, volumetric efficiency, isentropic efficiency, etc., across a wide range of on- and off-design conditions. The short simulation times make the tool well-suited to optimising early-stage designs. The tool is used to generate efficiency maps for reciprocating-piston expanders.
