Abstract
The overall aim of this PhD research project is to develop a world leading, European-centred open innovation repository for knowledge transfer and data sharing across different manufacturing sectors based on a patented, lab proven cloud FEA simulation system SmartForming. This patented platform has been developed, lab-proven and is currently hosting 200+ scientific plug-ins for metal forming applications.
The interoperability of the platform will enable the seamless integration of various research fields and manufacturing sectors through ready-to-use open-source scientific ‘plug-ins’. New ‘plug-ins’ have been developed with the leaders in material characterisation and physics-based modelling and the industry to create a seamless and standardised platform with direct connection to key metal forming processes, e.g., hot aluminium stamping.
The developed open framework will disrupt the European manufacturing industry through enhancing the efficiency by 80-90% in terms of time reductions for material and product development processes. The innovative cloud framework will find widespread application by metal forming industry for disrupting markets and creating high economic and strategic impact.
