Abstract
The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic led to a significant shortage in the provision of specialized physicians in respiratory diseases, which ultimately resulted in the sudden recruitment of other healthcare professionals to work in the respiratory wards. However, most of those medical practitioners were not fully trained in managing severe respiratory diseases, and the burden of medical errors quickly became an obvious obstacle to efficient care.
Designed by physicians working in the Portuguese NHS, dioscope was a clinical decision support system built to aid in the prevention of these medical errors during the pandemic. However, dioscope quickly demonstrated its
broader application as a collaborative tool for other healthcare teams, thus being an example of best practice with a global application that supports medical decisions.
