Abstract
Ensuring the effective delivery of the highest standard of care is at the forefront of any healthcare organisation’s agenda. The United Kingdom’s National Health Service continues to evolve its standard operating protocols to provide and support the needs of an ever aging patient population with complex conditions under considerable resource and budget limitations. As a consequence, measures have been set in place to ensure that healthcare delivery is achieved with the minimal possible waste of resources.
”Getting It Right First time” (GIRFT) is one such multi-specialty measured quality improvement strategy that looks at minimising variation to effective delivery of quality healthcare by upholding the principle of health equity and
ensuring the timely delivery of healthcare services to the patient.
The principles of GIRFT now extends to a broad range of healthcare organisations ensuring that, irrespective of the care provider, optimal patient outcomes and experience are achieved and maintained at the highest levels of
measurable quality. This best practice correspondence delivers the phases necessary to achieve the principles of GIRFT and its effective implementation, providing evidence of its impact and sustainability.
