Search for an exotic decay of the Higgs boson to a pair of light pseudoscalars in the final state with two muons and two b quarks in pp collisions at 13 TeV

Abstract
AsearchforexoticdecaysoftheHiggsbosontoapairoflightpseudoscalarparticlesa1isperformedunderthehypothesisthatoneofthepseudoscalarsdecaystoapairofoppositesignmuonsandtheotherdecaystobb.Suchsignaturesarepredictedinanumberofextensionsofthestandardmodel(SM),includingnext-to-minimalsupersymmetryandtwo-Higgs-doubletmodelswithanadditionalscalarsinglet.Theresultsarebasedonadatasetofproton-protoncollisionscorrespondingtoanintegratedluminosityof35.9fb−1,accumulatedwiththeCMSexperimentattheCERNLHCin2016atacentre-of-massenergyof13 TeV.NostatisticallysignificantexcessisobservedwithrespecttotheSMbackgroundsinthesearchregionforpseudoscalarmassesfrom20 GeVtohalfoftheHiggsbosonmass.Upperlimitsat95%confidencelevelaresetontheproductoftheproductioncrosssectionandbranchingfraction,σhB(h→a1a1→μ+μ−bb),rangingfrom5to33 fb,dependingonthepseudoscalarmass.Correspondinglimitsonthebranchingfraction,assumingtheSMpredictionforσh,are(1–7)×10−4.
