Abstract
(–)-Spartiene, a naturally occurring lupin alkaloid, has been used as a chiral ligand by various groups over the years to perform many different types of asymmetric transformations. Due to the unique structure that lupin alkaloids possess, the quinolizidine structure bound together through a central bispidine core, it allows for (–)-sparteine to act as a bidendate ligand around metal catalysts providing a chiral framework. This enables for the induction of chirality when synthesizing chiral structures. (–)-Sparteine is an exceptional chiral ligand in its own right.
