Abstract
The Lancet asthma commission brought together experts
from all over the world to address the question as to why for the most
part asthma outcomes have stalled over the last decade [1]. The
discovery of the efficacy of inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) undoubtedly
transformed the lives of millions of patients suffering from asthma, but
there have been no real major breakthroughs since. Pharmacotherapy
is still the blue one and the brown one, albeit with a darker brown and a
longer acting blue. Why? The Commission poses sharp questions and
has some challenging answers, and some of the pediatric implications
of the Commission will be reviewed.
