Electronic portfolios are inherently personal as they contain personal content and reflection of and commentary about collected content. In order to create a seamless way of collecting portfolio data, mobile devices can be used as the primary point of use for a portfolio author. Media-gathering is more tightly bound (through built-in audio/video recording facilities) and content can be created on the fly. As portfolios are characterized as being Web-based we can utilize appropriate technologies to serve Web-based content directly from a mobile phone. Nokia’s Mobile Web Server (MWS) is a port of the Apache Web Server for Series 60 Nokia Smartphones that includes a mechanism for accessing these mobile Web servers from the World Wide Web. A mobile user can therefore publish content directly on their phone and does not have to actively publish the information to a centralized server elsewhere on the Internet. In this paper we describe the current MWS applications that can be used for creating and organizing portfolio content and outline an analysis of why a portfolio would benefit from being hosted on a Mobile Web Server.
