Abstract
Microstructural features governing FRP compressive failure initiation were identified by analysing computational simulations of 2D FRP microstructures with random fibre waviness. Results showed that failure initiation was not governed by magnitude of fibre misalignment angle (θf) but rather by the pattern or spatial variation of θf, as well as fibre volume fraction (V f). This finding remained consistent
regardless of changes to FRP microstructural parameters.
