Abstract
This thesis describes synthetic attempts at geometry-selective formation of new terpenoid, trisubstituted olefins via olefin metathesis reactions between a terpenoid and a suitable trisubstituted olefin. This thesis was divided into three parts, with experimental procedures and appendices included to cover practical details and spectroscopic data.
The first part of this thesis introduces the theoretical background of terpene synthesis and olefin metathesis, with an emphasis on the recent development of geometry-selective metathesis.
The second part of this thesis describes the relay cross-metathesis approach in the synthesis of terpenoid, trisubstituted olefins and efforts on altering the E/Z-selectivity in this process.
The third part of this thesis describes attempts at developing geometry-selective relay ring-closing metathesis methods between terpenoid, trisubstituted olefins.
