Abstract
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) frequently coexist and mutually amplify risk [1]. CKD development and progression share traditional ASCVD risk factors such as ageing, hypertension, diabetes, and obesity, but also include immune-mediated and inflammatory diseases among others [1]. There are differences with inflammation promoting structural and functional alterations within the renal microvasculature, glomeruli, and tubulointerstitium, ultimately leading to progressive nephron loss [1]. Beyond these mechanisms, disturbances in lipoprotein metabolism may also contribute to cardiovascular and renal injury.
