Abstract
A covering map formalism for studying the spectral curves assocaited
with finite gap Jacobi matrices is presented. We advocate a constructive
function theoretic framework based on use of the Schottky-Klein prime function.
The single gap, or genus-one, case is studied in explicit detail.
