Search for dark matter in events with a leptoquark and missing transverse momentum in proton-proton collisions at 13 TeV

Abstract
Asearchispresentedfordarkmatterinproton-protoncollisionsatacenter-of-massenergyof√s=13 TeVusingeventswithatleastonehightransversemomentum(pT)muon,atleastonehigh-pTjet,andlargemissingtransversemomentum.ThedatawerecollectedwiththeCMSdetectorattheCERNLHCin2016and2017,andcorrespondtoanintegratedluminosityof77.4 fb−1.Intheexaminedscenario,apairofscalarleptoquarksisassumedtobeproduced.Oneleptoquarkdecaystoamuonandajetwhiletheotherdecaystodarkmatterandlow-pTstandardmodelparticles.ThesignatureforsignaleventswouldbesignificantmissingtransversemomentumfromthedarkmatterinconjunctionwithapeakattheleptoquarkmassintheinvariantmassdistributionofthehighestpTmuonandjet.Thedataareobservedtobeconsistentwiththebackgroundpredictedbythestandardmodel.Forthefirstbenchmarkscenarioconsidered,darkmattermassesupto500 GeVareexcludedforleptoquarkmassesmLQ≈1400 GeV,andupto300 GeVformLQ≈1500 GeV.Forthesecondbenchmarkscenario,darkmattermassesupto600 GeVareexcludedformLQ≈1400 GeV.
