Abstract
In September 2023, Genomics England (GE) launched a funding call for community groups to deliver one day workshops to explore cultural barriers to participation in maternal genomic health research. The goals were also to better understand the barriers these communities might face to participate in research and to gain insights into enhancing recruitment of underrepresented communities to future studies in genomic sequencing.
Mosaic Community Trust (Mosaic) aims to empower diverse, socially and economically marginalised and disadvantaged communities, thereby enabling them to participate actively in strategic decision-making at the community level and to access mainstream services and economic opportunities. Mosaic were successful at securing funding to deliver this activity and included the Imperial Patient Experience Research Centre (PERC) as a collaborator. PERC is a core facility of the National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) Imperial Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) which is hosted by Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in partnership with Imperial College London. This report outlines the community insights from two workshops were co-developed with the Mosaic Community core staff and Health and Wellbeing leads in November 2023.
