Abstract
The problem of breakdown of laminar flow into turblence has engaged the attention of scientists for many years. Osborne Reynolds (1883) first discovered that transition occurs for a certain value of his now well known Reynolds' Number. The concept of energy of disturbance was used by Reynolds: that if the distrubance grows, energy is absorbed from the basic flow at a greater rate than it is dissipated by viscosity; if it decays, the viscous damping is more important factor.
